The Pingjum Pre-enactment Project
Community Art Project (proposal) Marne Art, 2017-2019

Just as a re-enactment restages a historical period or event using costumes and props, this project proposes a hypothetical event in advance through a pre-enactment. The pre-enactment takes place at the site of a monastery that was flooded in the Middle Ages, in Pingjum, and presents the response of a future living community to changes in the landscape that could occur under the pressure of climate change. The pre-enactment is developed in collaboration with a group of local participants. A number of small, hand-held props will be produced and used during the pre-enactment. The event will be recorded on video, using the green dike as both a backdrop and a green screen for video editing. After the pre-enactment, the props will be attached to the dike. This proposal was developed within the framework of Marne Art, which involved the local community through public events and workshops and encouraged conversations about our shared future. Due to the absence of follow-up funding, the project did not proceed to the implementation phase.
