Artist Sharon Houkema (1975, NL) navigates the 'common ground'. While going from one viewpoint to the next, a kind of animation is performed, in which the objects of focus come to life in the process. The work explores divergent forms of engagement.
Houkema studied at the Gerrit Rietveld academy and was a research resident in Rijksakademie Amsterdam, El Eco Museo Experimental Mexico City, ViaFarini in Milan, and Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. Next to commissions in public space, offline and online publishing she also exhibits her work in art instutions amongst which: Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Fact Liverpool, La Casa Endida in Madrid, DUCTAC in Dubai, CTM festival Berlin, and White Box New York. She received the Volkskrant audience award in 2010 as well as several (inter)national fellowships and grants in support of her practice.
